Delegates voting in the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party in the Tema West Constituency are counting losses after receiving what they have described as meagre cash handouts from candidates.
The delegates contend Carlos Kingsley Ahenkora, the incumbent who is not seeking re-election, treated them well dishing out as much as a thousand cedi per candidate aside 32 inch plasma television sets.
A delegate who spoke to Starr FM’s Prince Essien lamented that she had not yet made even a thousand cedis from the candidates.
The disappointed delegate exclaimed, ”Eli! We have missed Carlos Ahenkora so much. He was a show man whose show was flamboyant. Even in the previous elections we had cash plus 32 inch television sets,’’
She was deeply disturbed the current crop of candidates contesting to be parliamentary candidates have lowered the bar set by their predecessors who she claimed fared graciously dolling out money and other overtures to induce delegates to vote in their direction.
”If I calculate how much I have made, I have really made losses. I don’t even have a thousand cedis. They should know how much we the delegates work for the party,’’ she cautioned.
The delegate, however, indicated she had picked information the constituency chairman was promising to top them up with some three hundred cedis to compensate them.
The straight contest is between the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of SWAP Advertising Company Limited, Mr. Robert Richard Suapim Jnr aka SWAPO and a former Constituency Chairman of Tema West, Mr. Dennis Amfo Sefah, popularly known as Nana Boakye.
