Chiefs in Ekumfi in the Central Region have expressed dissapointement in President Akufo-Addo over his comment that he has not made the developmental needs of the people of Ekumfi a priority because they rejected Joseph Ato Cudjoe, the NPP Parliamentary candidate in the 2020 election.

The traditional rulers at a press conference stressed that they have the liberty by law to choose who deem fit and competent to represent them as their Member of Parliament, emphasising that the President is not clothed with any power to dictate to them.

The Paramount Chief of Ekumfi, Odeefo Akyin VIII, who addressed the press in expressing the suprise over the President’s statement said: “We are extremely shocked by those statements and struggle to believe the same to be true because we particularly did not believe that the President…could politically segregate the country and treat others with disdain and dislike.”

The Chief challenged the President Akufo-Addo to prove with an accurate data developmental projects done by the former MP, Ato Cudjoe, to prove that the latter needed to be re-elected.

Odeefo Akyin VIII cited Ato Cudjoe’s defeat in last weekend’s NPP Ekumfi parliamentary primary for the 2024 general election, questioning why Ekumfi should suffer for his exit in 2020 when even the President’s own party members rejected him.

”Our calls come on the heel of the fact that the same Ato Cudjoe who is preferred by the President whose exit from Parliament has become the reason why the President has neglected the people of Ekumfi has once again lost miserably in NPP internal primaries to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general election. If the President’s own party folks will reject Hon. Ato Cudjoe, why must the chiefs and people of Ekumfi suffer for his exit in 2020 election,”  Odeefo Akyin VIII asked?

The chiefs emphasised the significance of giving development projects top priority for the benefit of all Ekumfi inhabitants, pleading with the President to take the community’s unity and well-being into account, regardless of party affiliations.
