Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has said former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta wields more power and influence now than when he was in office.

There have been reports that Mr Ofori-Atta who was axed by President Akufo-Addo in Wednesday’s reshuffle in response to calls by a large section of Ghanaians, is to take up a new role as an Advisor to the President.

It is rumoured that the former Finance Minister will soon be appointed as the senior presidential advisor on the economy, with focus on international investment and the capital markets.

This new job if comfirmed will see him focusing on attracting international investments to Ghana and leveraging on his huge international network.

Commenting on the issue in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM monitored by Kasapafmonline.com, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini was confident Mr Ofori-Atta’s will assume the new role very soon which makes him more powerful than his successor.

”Today, do you know what the President has done and Ghanaians must know this. Ken Ofori-Atta has gone nowhere. Ken is stronger now than when he was Finance Minister. He is the Senior Advisor to the President on the Economy. He’s more powerful than the Finance Minister, the policy advisor to the President works directly with the President. In fact, he has the President’s ear 24 hours. If they bring any policy issue, even before they go to Cabinet they will have to listen for his views. If they want to talk about any economic matter, it will go to Ken Ofori-Atta first. Not only that, the President has handed him another position, he is his Special Envoy for the Capital Markets and External Investments. You know what that means, so if you are dealing with IMF, won’t you go and see him,” the former Night Editor of Daily Graphic Newspaper asked?

He added: ”I am telling you today without any iota of doubt, Ken Ofori-Atta is more powerful now than before. My brother Amin Adam is now the Finance Minister, why are they appointing somebody as Special Advisior in Charge of the Economy? When Ken Ofori Atta was Finance Minister did they appoint anybody as a Special Advisor.”?
