The Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama has categorically stated that Ghana is not experiencing dumsor, a persistent, irregular, and unpredictable electric power outage.

The government has been adamant to admit that there is a power crisis in the nation.

Most parts of Accra and other regions have been experiencing power outages for days with no prior notice from the ECG or the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) limited.

Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM, the ECG Boss explained that the intermitent power outage is due to the  massive technical problem the power sector is currently experiencing.

”…I don’t even know why people want to dwell on dumsor, it is a bad experience. An outage is an outage but what we call dumsor, in other parts of the world actually should be called a disturbance on the line. So, dumsor is not back, it is the truth.

”We are experiencing a massive problem as we speak. Who would have known that an emergency gas valve will go off, because it is not time for maintenance. If we talk we will not send certain signs or certain stories into the public domain. But more so, we need to actually know that this is our situation, this is the conversation that need to be had and then we go about it. If we were doing it in the private sector or private business, would we speculate? What is dumsor? dumsor is a long protracted period where I have to actually give you a time table, so if I have to give you a time table for you to plan your life, how wicked can we be as a company not to do that just to take away your livelihood just because we want to keep the status quo going…no, we are not going to do that.”
