Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi have Today, Wednesday, March 13, 2024 begun a partial strike action.

Currently, the doctors are not seeing new cases.

The doctors have laid down their tools over the eviction of over 20 senior specialists and consultants living at the Danyame residential area.

The government in 2022 released about 400 acres of government lands at the Ridge Nhyeaso and Danyame areas of Kumasi to the Kumasi Traditional Council, the custodians of the land acquired by the colonial masters.

Management of KATH in the morning met the striking doctors to soften their stance on the eviction matter as theY meet the relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter.

The Public Relations Officer of KATH, Kwame Frimpong in an interview with Starr News indicated that Management of the hospital has iniated moves to get the issue with the accomodation of the dictors resolved.

”After the doctors informed management about issues concerning their accomodation, we’ve spoken to the Regional Coordinating Council, Lands Commission and Danyame Redevelopment Committee and the assurance is that no doctor will be evicted without being given accomodation elsewhere. Some of the doctors complained that the redevelopers had cut their water and electricity supply, and the Regional Ministers and the Lands Commission have assured they they will deal with any redeveloper who will cause inconvenience for the doctors.

He added: ”We’ve told the doctors that given the assurance we’ve been given by the Regional Coordinating Council and the Lands Commission, it is important that they rescind their decision to strike. They have indicated that they will for the time being continue to take care of patients on admission while do further engage with their leadership. The Hospital Management will this afternoon hold a meeting with the RCC, Lands Commission, Danyame Redevelopment Council and the Doctors and we’re sure the issues will be resolved for doctors to resume full work.”
