The Effutu Municipality emerged winners at the 2024 inter-District Maths & Science competition for Basic Schools in the Central Region.

The competition was first organized in thirteen Districts – namely Assin South, Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Mfantseman, and Effutu.

The rest are Twifu Hemang Lower Denkyira, Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa, Agona West, Ekumfi, Gomoa West, Gomoa East, Awutu Senya West, and Cape Coast Metropolitan.

Another competition was later organized to select the best four districts to the final competition.

The final best four were Agona West, Twifu Hemang Lower Denkyira, Mfantseman and Effutu.

At the end of the competition, Effutu Municipality emerged the winner with 70 points, followed by the Mfantseman with 69 points, Agona West came third with 63 points and Twifu Hemang Lower Denkyira being the forth with 23 points.

Prizes, money and a trophy were presented to the contestants at the end of the competition. Districts, Teachers and all the participants were also rewarded with handsome amount of money.

The final competition was graced by many dignitaries including Education Directors, Chiefs, CEO and Workers from the Standard Assessment Solution Company.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman for the occasion who was the former Education Director of the Mfantseman Municipality, Madam Martha Acquah advised students to take their lesson serious and ensure that they climb very high the academic calendar.

On his part, the District Education Officer for the Ekumfi District and also the Dean of Education Director in the Central Region Mr. Oscar encouraged pupils to involve themselves into the learning of Mathematics and Science.

He lamented the fact that most Ghanaian pupils dislike the study of Science and Maths which is very sad.

He noted that the lack of Science tools and equipment in various schools for practicals discourage pupils from learning Science.

Mr. Oscar further appealed to the various institutions and individuals to support various Schools with Science equipment for practicals.

Lastly, the Chiefs Executive Officer for the Standard Assessment Solutions Company Ltd Mrs. Bernice Asare who fully sponsored the Maths and Science Competition in the Central Region in an interview with GhOne News Yaw Boagyan revealed that this wasn’t the first time the company has supported this programme.

According to her, anything relating to education is the company’s priority.

She promised to support the Education Directories in various District in the Central Region when in need.

Mrs. Bernice Asare encouraged other Districts to also replicate the organizing of the Science and Maths quiz competition in the various arears.
