Former Director of Elections for the opposition NDC Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has warned the increased reported cases of corruption and drug trafficking especially in election years is as a result of huge monetary requirements for campaigns.

The former Youth and Sports Minister has consequently warned the development threatens the democracy of the country.

Speaking to Starr News/GhOne News at the meeting between the NDC manifesto committee and Star Ghana Foundation, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah pointed to a number of scandals under the Nana Addo administration including the recent cocaine trafficking incident at KIA as conduit to secure funds for campaigns.

He called on the media and CSOs to champion a crusade in reducing huge funds required for campaigns.
