The Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, Prof Alidu Seidu says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will have a tough task projecting its running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to voters who are sympathetic to the party.
The perception of Dr. Opoku Prempeh being arrogant is dominating media discussion soon after his affirmation by the National Council of the NPP on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
Not long ago, the Running mate who is the current Minister of Energy got on the wrong side of the public after he told Ghanaians asking for load shedding timetable during the period of erratic power supply to prepare their own timetable.
In an interview with Joy News, Prof. Alidu Seidu said the NPP may struggle to convince the public that indeed the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South is not arrogant.
“We have just six months to elections. Yes, you can convince the NPP supporters that ‘this is not how Napo is. Few people have worked with Napo and they know that these are perceptions and that Napo is not like that.’
“But we the people outside NPP or even people within the party who haven’t fraternised with him, how long will it take them to change their perception,” he asked?
He added: “And a lot of people have been referring to the recent ‘dumsor’ which a lot of Ghanaians were angered. Because ‘dumsor’ has affected their work, businesses, and personal life.”
