Helena Baaba Botchway, the first runner-up of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant in 2017, has remained dedicated to mental health advocacy since her time in the competition.
In a recent effort to support mental health initiatives, she partnered with talent manager Albert Nii Amartey Armah to make a significant donation to the Oblogo Health Facility.
Expressing her passion for mental health, Helena stated, “The donation was focused on mental health sensitization. We have previously discussed how real the stigma is. Therefore, we decided to visit the Oblogo Health Facility in Accra, which has a mental health department, to meet some of the patients, encourage them, and emphasize the importance of adhering to their medication and listening to their doctors.”
The donation included food items to support the patients at the facility.
Helena highlighted the need to address mental health stigma and provide continuous support for those affected.
Albert, speaking on the initiative, emphasized his role in motivating and encouraging the patients. “As someone with influence in the showbiz industry, I was there to motivate and encourage the patients to clear their minds of the stigma surrounding mental health issues,” Albert said.
With his extensive experience managing artists, Albert understands the mental health challenges faced by creatives in the industry. He called on the creative community to support mental health institutions in delivering top-quality services to patients.
“Fame comes with a lot of mental stress, which sometimes leads to drug abuse. I don’t want to mention names, but we all know where some of our esteemed musicians have ended up,” he noted.
The management of the Oblogo Health Facility expressed their gratitude for the donation and urged other individuals and organizations to support the center’s efforts in providing care for mental health patients.
