Corruption: Akufo-Addo just doesn’t get it – Mahama

The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has criticized President Akufo-Addo for being indifferent to corruption-related activities during his administration.

Former President Mahama repeated his well-echoed political phrase that Ghanaians “had become numb” to corruption owing to the high levels of mismanagement and malfeasance under the incumbent president’s watch.

Speaking at the much-awaited event to outdoor his party’s manifesto at the University of Education, Winneba campus, Mr. Mahama bemoaned the president’s attitude towards corruption, a subject he chided the NDC leader on when he was running for office.

“Political leadership is at its lowest ebb and corruption is at its highest. And Ghanaians have become numb to the scandals that are exposed almost every week and when you have a President who says he doesn’t understand the hullabaloo that is being made about the sale of SSNIT hotels to a minister in his own government then clearly he is on a completely different wavelength from the rest of us in this country.

“My brothers and sisters, this is a president who just doesn’t get it,” former President Mahama said of his successor.

He disclosed that many investors he engaged had told him they were waiting for a “signal” from the Ghanaian electorate which would change the country’s political and economic environment for the better.

In reference to the Parable of the Talents in the Scriptures, the nation’s former leader said the story of the New Patriotic Party was worse than the servant who did not increase his share as his fellow servants done. In his view, the ruling party was going to hand over the country in huge debts, a more troubling situation than what they inherited in 2017.

President Mahama promised to establish ‘Operation Recover All the Loot Strategies’ dubbed ORALS to retrieve assets belonging to the state improperly sold off.
