As part of his manifesto for the upcoming elections, flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined a broad economic strategy that includes fiscal reforms and revising the nation’s tax regime.

Speaking at a press engagement at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, Dr. Bawumia insisted that his plans were a drift away from the priorities of the current NPP government.

The Vice-President in his nearly four-hour engagement with journalists emphasized that even former President Mahama, who had full authority as president, did not implement all the reforms he had promised.

“I must have a manifesto, otherwise, if I do everything now, what would I do when I come into office?” Bawumia asked rhetorically. “Everyone who is running for office, whether you are Kamala Harris or you are Bawumia, you still have to think about what you have to do when you get into office.”

Regarding his fresh concepts, Dr.Bawumia declared: “I have new ideas that I want to implement as soon as we take office. We wish to implement tax changes, tax amnesty, lower import duties, and other measures. These are fresh concepts that we hope to put into practice once we take office.” Dr. Bawumia said, “The budget that has gone to parliament and has been passed is not my budget,” in response to a query on the implementation’s delay. My budget isn’t it. The president is named on the budget; the vice president is not named on it.”
