The ex-Ghana manager claims he could get back into handling the national team should the need arise in the future

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has refused to shut the door on a possible return to the team following a disappointing end to his first stint.

The Al Khartoum manager qualified the Black Stars for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil after taking over the team in 2012, but a dismal campaign at the global showpiece ended his reign in September 2014.

“If it happens that I should be back, I will be back, nobody knows,” Appiah told Starr FM.

“Coaching is my profession so I will never stop coaching until my time is up.”

Ghana saw a first ever elimination at the group stage of the World Cup under Appiah after falling to the USA and Portugal in Group G. In between, there was a 2-2 draw with eventual champions Germany.

Prior to Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Portugal in the last group game, Appiah was reported to have been on the receiving end of verbal insults from midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, leading to the latter’s dismissal from camp.

Appiah’s team were also in the news for player agitations prior to their final match over unpaid appearance fees, leading to a scuffle between midfielder Sulley Muntari and a Black Stars management member.
