The CEO of Engineers and Planners(E&P), Ibrahim Mahama has revealed that he is currently building a cement plant project in the country that has no consideration for local content.
In adding this project to the stream of local engineering projects he owns, Mahama insisted he will go for a foreign hand to manage his cement plant project rather than settling on Ghanaians.
He explains he has closed his doors to locals in managing the project because he feels Ghanaians generally cannot be trusted in the efficient running of plants.
“When it comes to funeral Ghanaians will leave your plant and go to their funeral. There is one thing that Ghanaians are not good at, that is running equipment efficiently, doing your preventive maintenance, getting to the problem of the plant before the plant’s problem gets to you.
“….So the best thing to do is build the plant -as long as you have a loan to pay on the plant and let the plant be efficient to pay for itself, you let the supplier be responsible for the plant till you finish paying for it;then after, you now can take your destiny into your own hands,” the CEO of E&P stated in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
Mahama, has also disclosed his intention to tender for an Independent Power Producer(IPP) bid in the country, insisting that he is over-qualified to handle such job.
“Now that I know Government of Ghana can give anybody guarantee to build power plant, I will also apply and also be an IPP. I’m more than qualified to deserve this same concessions as is being given to others.”
