The defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey has declared that he will contest the upcoming November Parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

Nii Noi, at a press conference at Osu in Accra, on Wednesday stated that his decision was based on the fact that he has been unfairly treated by the party.

He won the first primary organized by the party on August 2, however, Counsel for the petitioners in the 2012 Presidential petition case, Phillip Addison, who was a defeated aspirant, sued the NPP at the High Court, demanding annulment of the results.

An Accra High Court dismissed an application filed by the disputed Parliamentary Candidate, Nii Noi Nortey, which sought to set aside a default judgment thereby setting the pace for the opposition

Lawyer Philip Addison won the re-run of the Klottey Korle Parliamentary polls conducted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with 396 votes against 367 garnered by the former Constituency Chairman of the area, Nii Noi Nortey.

Supporters of Nii Noi who are aggrieved by what they describe as unfair treatment by the party against their preferred candidate, last week besieged Nii Noi’s family house urging him to go independent in the upcoming polls.

Nii Noi Nortey who is a former Constituency Chairman, said after widely consulting stakeholders in the constituency, he is convinced that going independent is the surest way to win the seat and ensure development for the good people of Klottey Korle.
