Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has said the leakage in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) should be the collective responsibility of all stakeholders.
She said it would be unfair to single out one individual or institution for blame.
“It is everybody’s responsibility to lend a hand in solving this issue once and for all. If a parent had gone to pay money for examination question to be given to a child and the child has also given it to his friends, are we going to sit back and wait for the system to deal with itself? No because they have no right to do this.”
“I will not prejudge anyone since they are investigating. So, let’s allow investigations to go on. We need to allow the structures to work so that everybody will have his or her peace of mind,” she told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, the West African Examination Council announced the cancellation of five papers in the ongoing BECE which begun on Monday.
Questions papers of Integrated Science 2, Mathematics 2, Social Studies 2, Religious and Moral Education 2 and English Language 2 had gone viral on social, provoking the exams body to initiate that move.
The Education Minister commenting further on the incident told Banson that her outfit got to know of the incident on Tuesday but there was little they could do to salvage it.
“We got to know on Tuesday that it is obvious there is a problem. When they started distributing the leaked papers on whatsapp, it became very difficult to localize it.”
“we know that everybody is not happy so we are going to embark on drastic action to curb it. It’s a yearly occurrence and it is equally not good for the country. So, let us all help to probe the matter.”
The incident has since been referred to the Police and Bureau of National Investigations.
