President John Mahama is promising the establishment of a Development Authority for the Southern Volta Basin to drive the needed development in the area.

According to the President, the Southern Volta yields lots of tourism and economic potentials, hence the need for an authority to coordinate the holistic development of the area.

Speaking at a durbar at Anloga on Saturday, after a meeting with chiefs and leaders of the area, the President noted that the National Development Planning Commission, (NDPC) has already begun some preliminary works on the proposed Volta Basin Development Authority and the government will soon set up an implementation committee to execute the task.

He however hinted that, the proposed development authority and a proposal for the construction of a sea port at Keta has been captured in the NDC’s 2016 campaign manifesto ahead of the November 7, polls.

The President also informed the chiefs and people that, parliament has given approval for commencement of oil exploration in the Keta basin, which he noted will open job avenues for the teeming unemployed youth in the area.
