NPP 2016 flagbearer Nana Addo

Main opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has added his voice to ongoing calls for officials of the West African Examinations Council to get to the bottom of this week’s leakage of some papers in the ongoing BECE.

In a social media post Friday night Akuffo-Addo said “the tragedy that has befallen some 438,000 pupils who had prepared themselves for the aborted BECE examinations is most regrettable.”

He adds that the cancellation of the five papers was unprecedented and would require “a thorough investigation”.

“The tragedy that has befallen some 438,000 pupils who had prepared themselves for the aborted BECE examinations is most regrettable. Cancellation of five papers in the BECE era is unprecedented and requires a thorough investigation.

“The involvement of the BNI and police in the exercise is most welcome. As we await the outcome of the investigation, WAEC should be more vigilant in the processing of the examination papers to prevent the recurrence of this incident.

“My heartfelt sympathies go to the examination candidates and their parents. I urge the children to keep up their spirits and prepare themselves for the rescheduled papers so as to avoid any disruption in their progress towards a brighter future.”

Officials of the exam body say the cancelled papers will be rewritten on the weekend of June 29 and 30.
