A 2013 audited report of the Auditor-General has revealed that a convict, Abubakari Karim, who was bound for the Kumasi Central Prisons is missing.
Karim on June 24, 2012, was convicted by the Offinso Circuit Court to serve two years (24 months) prison sentence in hard labour.
According to the report, Detective Inspector K. A. Boateng of the Divisional CID, Offinso, who was tasked to escort Karim to the Kumasi Central Prisons failed to deliver him to the prison authorities.
This follows a verification that was conducted by the Auditor-General at the Kumasi Central Prisons.
Detective Boateng, Kasapafmonline.com learnt, has been ordered to produce the convict.
The Presiding Circuit Judge and the Offinso Divisional Police Commander have also been ordered to trace the convict and cautioned on future recurrence.
That aside, the Registrar of the Court has been directed to put in place mechanisms for the court to have correspondence with prison authorities upon which receipt of convicts into prison custody should be recorded.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, this website is told, has started probing the matter further after meeting with officials the Judicial Service on Thursday, April 21, 2016.
