Linda Akweley Ocloo, widow of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary for Shai Osodoku William Desmond Ocloo, has declared her intention to contest the position left vacant by her deceased husband.
According to her, she has been spurred on by the untimely death of her husband to make such an ‘unorthodox’ move to make her husband who has toiled for the party happy wherever he is.
The late Parliamentary candidate William Desmond Ocloo died in a gory accident on the night of Thursday 3rd March 2016 at Atwedie, near Juaso when his four-wheel GMC vehicle with registration number GR 7764-13, collided head-on with a Hyundai mini-cargo truck which was heading towards Kumasi from Accra.
Due to the impact of the collision, both drivers died on the spot.
But his widow, Linda Akweley Ocloo in an interview with Joy News Monday stated that she is prepared for the contest which will be a week after her husband’s burial.
She indicated that elders of Shai Osudoku impressed upon her to consider contesting for the position, adding that after doing the necessary consultation she has decided to make the daring move, but was quick to that she does not expect sympathy votes.
“I’m not sure of getting sympathy votes, I know what Ocloo has done for his people so I know they will not vote me simply because he’s not around, they are rather going to vote for me because they believe in him and also because they believe I will continue with Ocloo’s vision.
Mrs Ocloo dismissed concerns about the timing of her decision to contest as that will be few days after her husband’s burial.
“There is no time to waste; because I know Ocloo’s opponents are at the moment campaigning so the last thing I don’t want to see is to see Ocloo crying because this man toiled and suffered a lot for his people. The kind of insult that is coming at me, can you imagine that I receive a lot of text messages for me to step down for others persons.”
