Workers of Tema Shipyard and Drydock Corporation are demanding the immediate resignation of the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Tunde Ali.

Workers have accused the  CEO of mismanaging the company, and contributing to the woes of the staff for the past years since he assumed office.

The issue took a different turn when the Transport Minister, Fiifi Kwetey  toured the Tema Shipyard Tuesday, May 10, 2016.

The workers saw the minister’s presence as an opportune time and demonstrated in demand of the removal of their CEO as well as the dissolution of the company’s board.

Mr. Fiifi Kwetey’s visit was turned into a visit of arbitration of worker concerns, as angry workers carried placards  with the inscription such as “Shipyard board must be dissolved, “Three years without increment; CEO and HR must go” amidst chanting ‘CEO must go.’

The Minister in the midst of the agitations called for calm after a closed door meeting held with management, and some union executives.

“I’m hearing two of your colleagues have had their appointment terminated and I know that is one of the major reasons why you’re very angry.

“…We are going to look at the termination properly and determine whether proper procedures have been followed. And if they have not been followed, clearly we take a decision in order to change that position- that is something I can assure you,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the workers had earlier petitioned the President last week on their frustrations with the current management.
