The Ga South District Chief Executive, Jerry Acquaye Thompson has dismissed claims by the Weija-Gbawe NPP vice chairman, Patrick Kumor that he is unduly crediting the ruling NDC Parliamentary candidate for the area, Obuobia Darko Opoku with projects undertaken by the assembly.

According to the NPP, the NDC’s Obuobia Darko Opoku is busily campaigning in the constituency claiming to have undertaken several developmental projects through her NGO, Obuobia Foundation, when she actually has no hand in these projects, as they are under the auspices of the Municipal Assembly.

The Vice Chairman in an interview with Kasapa FM’s Maame Broni said the NPP will soon provide the necessary information on such projects.

However in a sharp rebuttal, the DCE Hon. Jerry Acquaye Thompson stated that he has never  credited the NDC candidate with any of the assembly’s projects in order to grant her any undue advantage over her competitors.

“If it is true that we unduly credit Madam Obuobia Darko Opoku with projects undertaken by the Assembly, then what work has the Assembly been doing? The assembly is auditored every year, so we cannot be taking taxes from the citizenry and fail to develop the area with monies that accrue to the assembly.

“The NDC candidate is very hardworking; she has her own NGO which solicits support from abroad to undertake developmental projects. What she is doing is complementing the efforts of the assembly, so we cannot throw her out, things that we are not able to do, she does them, and if the Assembly has money we’ll do it. If she’s able to mobilize monies from somewhere and is helping with development, why should we condemn her, we rather have to thank her for supporting the assembly to bring services and development to the people.

“She’s always on the neck of the assembly pressurizing us to take development to other communities in the district. That shows how concerned she is about her constituents. Whatever monies we have, there are other communities competing for the same money to use to develop their areas. So if she can lobby and bring about development, that rather eases pressure on the assembly. Whoever is competing Obuobia should stop accusing her falsely and rather learn from her good deeds.”
