Police personnel on Tuesday evening foiled an armed attempt at the First Atlantic Bank at Ridge in Accra, near the Accra Mayor’s residence after they gunned down a robber who tried robbing a customer of his money.

The victim believed to be a black market trader was shot by the armed robbers soon after he exited from the banking hall. The robbers then decided to flee on their motor bike.

An eye witness known as Yaa, in an interview with Kasapa News narrated that as the criminals fled, the police officers on duty at the bank chased them and sensing danger the robbers started shooting at the police to ward them off.

Luck however run out for the robbers when another team of police personnel who were approaching from the other direction of the road and had gotten wind of the incident shot one robber at the rib causing him to fall off the motorbike.

The robber, the eye witness said, tried to run away following which the police shot him a second time in the rib rendering him immobile.

An amount of GHC 30.000 was retrieved from the robbers.
