Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal struck late to win the 2016 edition of the European Championships, beating hosts France 1:0.

Despite Portugal having to play without Ronaldo, who left the game early due to a knee injury, they made the rest of the playing time count as they battled France who showed so much aggression and hunger for goal scoring opportunities.

After that Portugal simply hung on and hoped they may get a break. They didn’t. They hoped that they may get to extra-time. They did and then somehow won it through a Éder (Éderzito António Macedo Lopes) goal in the second half of injury time.

Portugal finished third in their group and lifted Sunday’s trophy having won just one game out of seven in 90 minutes.
