EC boss Charlotte Osei

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei has announced that she will not vote in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Ghanaians go to the polls to elect a President and two hundred and seventy five Members of Parliament to help govern the country in the next four years.

Mrs Charlotte Osei has come under pressure mainly from the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing her of being bias towards the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) by way of her actions and inactions especially relating to issues concerning the voters register.

As the former chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) which continuously encourages Ghanaians to exercise their franchise, it was expected that Mrs Osei will lead by casting her ballot during the election but speaking to Paul Adom Otchere on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show, she’s indicated she’ll not vote.

When she was asked whether she’ll vote, the EC Boss responded “No I will not”, Paul probed further…why? she added ‘because I don’t want to. It is not compulsory, but as the former Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education I strongly urge you to vote because it is a special privilege.”
