The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is ready to conduct a free and fair Talensi bye-election on Tuesday July 7.

According to the Regional Boss of the Commission, James Atta Yeboah, all the necessary materials to be used for the voting exercise such as ballot papers and Biometric Voting Device (BVD) have been secured waiting to be distributed to the various polling centres Tuesday dawn.

The bye-election has been necessitated by the resignation of the former NPP MP Robert Nachinab Mosore who has been enskinned as Tongo Chief under the name Tongorana Kubilsong Nalebegtan.

The various political parties competing in the election yesterday rounded their campaign activities.

The two major parties, the NDC and NPP held mammoth rallies attended by President John Dramani Mahama and the NPP’s Presidential candidate Nana Akufo Addo to campaign for their respective candidates.

Mr James Atta Yeboah stated that the EC has drawn lessons from some of the challenges encountered in the 2012 elections and has ensured that every polling station is allocated two BVD machines.

“We want to avoid a situation where there are long queues at polling stations due to faulty machines; each station will have two machines. This will ensure that the voting process is not truncated at any point in time.”

He however pointed out that any voter who is not verified will be denied the opportunity of voting, adding that such incidents will be looked into and the person later given an opportunity to cast his vote in the 2016 general elections.

Mr James Atta Yeboah appealed to the electorates most of whom are farmers to cast their votes before visiting their farms.

A total of 39,523 voters are expected to cast their ballot.
