Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Madam Akua Donkor has denied receiving an amount of GH¢ 30,000 from an unknown source.

The Parliamentary Candidate of the GFP in the upcoming Talensi bye-election, Yaro Bameezina Philip is said to have accused the founder of receiving funds meant to support his campaign activities, but had denied him of any such support.

He is quoted as saying “everybody is campaigning but what Akua Donkor is doing is not the best. In the north here, you can’t do politics without pushing money.”

However speaking on Kasapa 102.3 FM’s afternoon political show Si Mi So Monday, Madam Akua Donkor dared the candidate to name who gave her the money, if he indeed had the evidence adding that soliciting for campaign funds is the last thing she will do.

“I have always personally funded my political activities ever since I founded this party. I am a resourceful farmer capable of funding whatever endeavour I undertake. What is more expensive than forming and running a political party?

Madam Akua Donkor added that the GFP is a fully grown political party independent of the others, adding that her party will not be tied to any other party’s apron strings.

The Electoral Commission has set July 7 for the Talensi bye-election which has become necessary following the resignation of the former NPP MP for the area, Robert Nachinab Mosore who has been enskinned as Tongo Chief.

The two major parties, NDC and NPP on Sunday held mammoth rallies attended by President John Dramani Mahama and the NPP’s Presidential candidate Nana Akufo Addo to campaign for their respective candidates.

A total of 39,523 voters are expected to cast their ballot tomorrow.
