The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo says it is the dream of President John Dramani Mahama to see him pass on so he and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) can cling on to power for a third time.
In his view, the President wants him dead with the belief that it is the only way to help turn things around for his administration after having demonstrated eight years of incompetence in power.
“First they said I was a drug addict, it didn’t work. They said I was sick. It didn’t work. They said I was too old. It didn’t work. They said I was a hunchback. It didn’t work. They said I was a dwarf. It didn’t work. They said I was in a wheelchair. I didn’t work. They said I am a murderer. It didn’t work. They said I will die in June. It didn’t work. They said I was a dictator. It didn’t work. They said I was intolerant. It didn’t work. They said I was violent. It didn’t work. They said I had a secret agenda to destabilize the country. It didn’t work. Now, they say I have cancer. It will not work”.
“It looks as if the only way the President will get a third term is when I am sick or I am dead. That is the only ground on which he will get his third term. Issues of life, death and health are in the hands of the Almighty. I will leave matters in the hands of the Almighty, because, I believe, and I continue to say the battle is the Lord’s”, noted Akufo-Addo.
The former Attorney-General made this observation when he mounted the podium and addressed the people at a rally in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region- on Sunday, perhaps, in response to recent jabs from President John Dramani during his campaign tour to the Northern Region.
President Mahama while campaigning in the Northern Region told the people not to vote for the opposition leader because he is intolerant, divisive and cannot even unite the elephant family, stressing that anyone who dares oppose his ideas is shown the exit from the NPP.
But Akufo-Addo commenting further said he has become the main subject for the President anywhere he (President Mahama) goes after demonstrating to Ghanaians that he (Akufo-Addo) is the best man to relieve them from the shackles of economic doldrums brought about by the moribund administration of the NDC.
He believes that the strategy adopted by the number gentleman of the land shall continue until after the electioneering campaign.
“The President has made me his campaign. I am his campaign in Ghana today. I am saying to you, as defeat stares him in the face, the language against me is going to go higher and higher and higher, because it is clear to the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians that on the 7th of December, we are going to say to John Dramani Mahama, thank you and goodbye”, he posited.
