The Convention People’s Party(CPP) has cautioned Muslim youth not to avail themselves to be used by politicians to destabilize the peace and order in the country ahead of a major poll slated for December 7, 2016.
A statement released by the party and signed by Prof. Edmund Delle, the CPP National Chairman in commemoration of Eid al-Adha which would be marked Monday, September 12, 2016 by Muslims across the country said “As a religion of peace, we also would like to urge Muslim youth to shun any politician who would attempt to use them to achieve their ends or to cause mayhem during this year’s December elections,”
The release further added:“May the unity and oneness that symbolizes the peaceful gathering of families and friends, characterized by the sharing of meals with all, particularly the poor, help us to be more tolerant, respectful, and spur our willingness to continue to guard our relative peace and stability,”
Prof. Delle also in the statement noted that Eid al-Adha is a significant feast on the Muslim calendar which commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his only son in obedience to God’s command, thus it’s “the hope of the CPP that the feast will inspire us to work to maintain the peace in the country.”
Ghana goes to the polls December 7 to decide the next government which is mainly tilting between the incumbent NDC and the largest opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) as well as about 275 parliamentarians.
But the CPP believes the time is ripe to return to power after the party was toppled in the 1966 Coup.
