The Electoral Commission says it is for now not accepting the GH50,000 filing fees until further notice.

The Chairperson of the commission Mrs. Charlotte Osei said her outfit took the decision after being served with a court injunction in relation to that.

The PPP filed an interlocutory injunction application Wednesday afternoon to stop the EC from going ahead to receive the said fees together with the nomination forms from Thursday.

The EC Boss, announced the suspension on (today) Thursday when the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo filed his forms at the Commission in Accra to contest the 2016 general elections.

The largest opposition party had readied itself to pay the GH50,000, but Mrs Osei refrained from accepting the banker’s draft, indicating that her move was to respect the decision of the court.

She added that EC officials in all the constituencies have equally been notified to receive the nomination forms but should not accept money from the aspirants as filing fees for now until asked to do so.

The EC’s decision will come as welcome news to most of the smaller political parties which were agitated over the exorbitant filing fees.
