Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome/Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is not happy about delays on the part of the Attorney-General (A-G) to submit the Land Bill to Parliament for consideration and approval.

She does not understand why an amount of US$816,000 has been committed into the preparation of the draft Land Bill but it is still not yet available for Parliament to consider and approve it.

According to her, the A-G has till date not even submitted the draft Land Bill to Cabinet for approval let alone, Parliament.

This delay, she argued, is contributing to the numerous Land litigations across the country with some of the cases having been at the courts for over 50 years.

“The Land Bill is very important considering the various land litigations in the country. Already, US$816,000 has been committed into this project yet the Bill is not ready. So, what we want the A-G to do is to ensure that the draft Land Bill is submitted to Cabinet and subsequently to Parliament for consideration and approval,” she noted.

She made this observation, when contributing to the debate on the Report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the performance audit report of the Auditor-General on Phase One of the Land Administration Project (LAP-1) on the floor of Parliament on Thursday.

The Land Bill, according to the PAC report, is being refined for onward transmission to Cabinet and Parliament for consideration and approval.

The delay in the submission of the Bill, Kasapafmonline.com understands had to do with the processes involved in the drafting of the Land Bill.

According to the Committee’s report, the processes were not properly outlined at the initial stages.
