President of the Ghana Weight Lifting Federation Ben Nunoo Mensah has lauded founder and leader of HODA Group Dr. Kwabena Duffour and it’s Star Assurance for coming into their aid.
The National Weightlifting Team, Black Cranes received a cheque of GHC 12,000 from Star Assurance Company to enable them to participate in the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and Commonwealth Championships.
“On behalf of the Ghana Weight Lifting family, let me say a big thank you to Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Mr. Kofi Duffour and Mr. Samuel Ocran (MD of Star Assurance) for their kind gesture to the Ghana Weight Lifting Team.
“Star Assurance has proven that when there is no hope we can run to them for support, and we the Ghana Weight Lifting family are touched and appreciative”
“We also promise to bring back medal to demonstrate that we utilized the donation you made to us” Nunoo Mensah told the Press.
The Black Cranes of Ghana left the country’s shores on Thursday evening for Malaysia to represent Ghana at two International competitions in Penang, from 19th to 29th October, 2016 with a contingent of six athletes, three technical staff, two officials and a journalist.
The competitions are the IWF Youth World Championship and the Commonwealth Youth, Junior and Senior Championships.
A total budget of about USD$67, 000 was sent to the Sports Ministry through the National Sports Authority (NSA) last month but as at last Friday, there was no response from the ministry or NSA, even though the Minister promised he will do whatever he could to help.
With the above, the GWF President with support from other close relations have been able to buy some return tickets for the athletes and would need an additional US$15,000 which will cater for accommodation and feeding as well as affiliation and entry fees. – KASAPA SPORTS
