The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Asunafo South, George Boakye has come under serious attack by gun and machete wielding men suspected be to supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Though Mr. Boakye escaped unhurt, two of his men sustained various degrees of injuries.

The incident which happened between the hours 9:30pm and 10:00pm also saw the pick-up vehicle and some other valuables of the MP aspirant destroyed in the process.

Reports say Mr. Boakye was preparing to go to bed when thugs suddenly stormed his residence.

The residence of his father was also attacked by the same group some moments later.

Asunafo South has in recent times been in the news due to clashes between supporters of the governing NDC and the opposition NPP.

Thursday’s attack is the latest in a series of attacks between supporters of the two leading political parties as a result of the rivalry between the incumbent MP and Regional Minister, Eric Opoku and Mr. Boakye.

Boakye in a telephone conversation with Kasapafmonline.com said just as he was preparing to listen to news before going to bed, his lights suddenly went off.

Thereafter, he heard noise of stones, sticks among other things being thrown at his windows.

This was followed with gunshots, making him to seek for refuge in one of his room before calling the Police to come and rescue him.

The attackers, he noted, succeeded in destroying some of his home appliances while the driver of his pick-up vehicle also sustained machete wounds.

The thugs, he added, proceeded to his father’s house where they also inflicted cutlass wounds on one of the occupants of the house.

A section of the roof of the house was also destroyed.
