One person is feared dead while several others have lost valuable belongings in Tuesday’s inferno at the Abuja Slum in the Central Business District of Accra.

Kasapafmonline.com‘s Stephen Odoi-Larbi witnessed several structures razed down completely by an inferno that spread wildly to adjoining spots in minutes.

Settlers at the slum he says fear a colleague of theirs may have lost her child in the process.

Odoi-Larbi reports that the lady, whose name has only been given as Zalia, locked up her child in the room, to go get herself some items from a nearby shop. She learnt of the outbreak on her way back.

“The fire is spreading towards the COCOBOD office area,” he told us a while ago.

Officials of the Ghana national Fire Service have arrived at the scene to stop the fire from spreading any further.

Odoi-Larbi additionally reports that:

‘There settlers here are in grief, with some already counting their losses – in what could run into thousands of cedis.

“Attempts are being made by some of them to retrieve their items, most of which are stuck in the inferno.”
