The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije is urging electorate to go out in their numbers to cast their vote in the ongoing Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Voter turnout in general, according to reports, has been encouraging despite pockets of violence recorded in some areas.
The polls which kicked off at 07:00GMT across all the 28,992 Polling Stations in the country is expected to close at 17:00 GMT.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana expects 80% voter turnout of the 15,712,499 registered voters to cast their ballot in Wednesday’s exercise.
But the Major of the capital city, speaking in interview with Fiifi Banson on Kasapa 102.5 FM said although turnout is very encouraging, a huge number of voters are still in the house either dragging their feet or waiting to go the Polling Station at the last minute to cast thei ballot.
He said voters should be encouraged by the national exercise and go out in their numbers to exercise their franchise.
Mr. Vanderpuije who is contesting for the Ablekma South Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the governing National Democracy Congress (NDC) was very hopeful that the by close of polls he will emerge victorious alongside President John Dramani Mahama who is competing for the presidential polls.
