The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Eastern Regional branch has appealed to the Electoral Commission, to extend election in Afram Plains North Constituency to Thursday 8th December.

According to the party, their plea follows the inability of electoral materials to get to the various polling stations in the constituency early enough, a situation that they contend has disenfranchized several constituents.

The party claimed that as at 4:00pm, exactly an hour to the close of polls, some polling stations including Abutsure Polling Station, had still not received Electoral materials for voting to commence.

Below is the full statement

EXTENSION OF ELECTION IN AFRAM PLAINS NORTH CONSTITUENCY

We wish to bring to the attention of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the general public, our dissatisfaction with happenings in Afram Plains North Constituency.
A lot of Constituents have been disenfranchised because of some anomalies that have happened in the constituency.

Although polls opened at 7:00am across the nation, some polling stations in Afram Plains North started voting as late as 2:05pm.
These polling stations are Gallelia, Zion, Fripon, Akwetekope, Ada nteti, Kadekope, Batorkope and Baby.

Again, electoral materials were sent to three polling stations namely: Papavikope, Fitikope and CK Kope after 2:30pm.

As at now [4:00pm], Abutsure Polling Station has not received Electoral materials for voting to commence.

It has become necessary to issue this Press release because of the number of qualified Constituents who will obviously be disenfranchised as a result of these Electoral anomalies. People have not been able to cast their vote for no fault of theirs.

We are therefore calling on the Electoral Commission to as a matter of importance, extend election in Afram Plains North Constituency to Thursday 8th December, 2016 for all these affected constituents to get the chance to exercise their constitutional right.

The Commission has been very corporative thus far and we believe same will be done in this instance.
We are pleading with our numerous party supporters there to remain calm as we work together with the Electoral Commission to resolve these anomalies.
