Former New Patriotic Party(NPP) Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South, Stephen Balado Manu says spouses of politicians who join their partners in the political space must restrain themselves in the game to avoid possible controversies.

He criticised spouses of politicians who feel politics is a necessary venture for them once their partners step into that light, insisting that “politics may not be safe for everybody”.

Ghana’s Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur at a local basic school in Kukurantumi suggested that authorities of basic schools should be able to provide teaching materials for their schools, a comment which has stoked huge public debate.

This was after the headmistress of the Kukurantumi Presby Primary School, Mrs Juliet Oppong,  requested her to help provide the school with basic working tools including chalks and log books.

But Mrs. Amissah-Arthur thought otherwise insisting that the authorities should use their own initiative to provide such materials.

“Government has provided majority of the items you are asking for and we have also given pupils free uniforms and sandals so we will not bring any chalk or log books – you must look at other sources like old students’ associations, parents and others to supplement government effort”, the Second Lady said.

However,  Mr Balado Manu, while reacting to the comments by the Second Lady on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday, maintained that under the labour law, it is a standard practice that every employer sees to the provision of the needed tools or accoutrements for the worker.

“Under the Labour law it is a requirement that the employer must ensure the provision of all working tools for the employees to work with”

“It is the duty of the government to supply all these things for efficient teaching and learning activities in schools”

“PTA donations and funding just come as a voluntary exercise by the old students who feel touched by the needs of the students”
