The National Health Insurance Authority has inaugurated a Claims Payment Software to facilitate the smooth and early payment of claims to service providers.

Stakeholders have suggested for the NHIS to have reforms in its provider payment and claims submission and processing systems to ensure simpler and faster processes.

Computerization and investment to improve the capacity to administer for both purchasers and providers will be key in any reform at the NHIA, research have shown.

The challenges in provider payment under the NHIS system has led to the boycott of health insurance services across the country.

But at a ceremony Tuesday, December 20, 2016,  the Chief Executive of the Authority, Nathaniel Otoo said the Software will revolutionized the payment system and improve service delivery at health facilities.

“The capabilities that this application offers is to allow the regional Director to see who is not submitting their claims and to be able to go into it and prompt them to do that as appropriate. This new application that we are doing takes into account the context of the country. So it is not going to be an online system. Online is part of it but… you have very flexible ways in which the claims would be submitted.

“The benefit of claiming will be reduction in the financial cost of claims generation and submission, Reduction in claims errors, Improved claims processing turn around, and reduction in cost of claims storage among others.”
