The Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic has been duly constituted after members elected were in the dawn of Saturday, January 7th sworn in as new crop of legislators for the next parliament.

The new Speaker, Prof. Mike Ocquaye led the House to swear by the Bible or Quran  after which the MPs shared pleasantries to congratulate each as colleagues for the seventh Parliament.

Ahead of the swearing in of new members for the current parliament, the new majority leader, Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu nominated Prof. Mike Ocquaye for the position of Speaker, after moving the motion for Mr. Ocquaye to take the chair as Speaker of Parliament. He was later sworn in as new Speaker of Parliament.

Rt. Hon. Prof. Oquaye also presided over the House to elect the two deputies who will assist him discharge his duties.

The 1st deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu who was nominated by the majority sailed through without any opposition.

Similarly, the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin who was nominated by the Minority side was accorded same treatment.

The Seventh Parliament was constituted following the dissolution of the Sixth Parliament at 12 midnight of Saturday.

The Sixth Parliament lasted for a period of four years.

The Seventh Parliament is also expected to travel that mile.

Sitting has however been suspended until 10: 00 in the forenoon of Saturday.
