President Nana Akufo Addo on Thursday visited the residence of his Minister of Trade and Industry designate Alan Kyeremanteng in Accra, to express his condolence to him following the death of his sister.

Mr Kyeremanteng’s sister, Brigitte Kyeremanteng-Darko was one of the many victims of the La Trade Fair gas explosion late last year which claimed the lives of 12 people with over 40 persons sustaining various degrees of injuries.

She died on Wednesday morning.

Nana Akufo Addo’s entourage included Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and other leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The full conclusions of the investigation into the cause of the explosion is not yet confirmed, but preliminary results suggest the cause of the explosion was due to negligence on the part of the station operators.

While emptying a gas tank on Thursday, December 22 2016, the machine caught fire, igniting the electric cables nearby which caused the explosion, and left the area around the site destroyed.

Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Mr. Moses Asaga, days after the unfortunate incident explained that two bolts which should have tightened the lid on the gas tanker were missing.

He said that the pressure of the fully loaded gas tanker was forced out ‘like a missile’ causing the explosion.
