A former Greater Accra Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Ampong says the comments and posture of Dr. Amoako Baah, a political scientist are sowing seeds of discord within the opposition NPP.

He bemoaned certain judgment of the academia with regards to NPP internal matters, saying he often run commentaries that tends to throw dust into the eyes of the public.

His observation follows a statement he released on behalf of a Group, National Youth Leaders Forum,(NYLF) that sought to caution the NPP ahead of 2016 elections on the activities of certain persons  it described as ‘rented intellectuals’ and ‘mushrooming civil society organizations’.

Ampong who doubles as the Executive Director of the Group dismissed  Dr. Amoako Baah’s position on  the NPP confusion over legal representation at a Sunyani High Court recently.

The Head of Political Science Department at KNUST  had earlier contended that  “the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong are responsible for the clash of the two different  counsels that represented the party in court.”

But Ampong feared such opinions would weaken the internal cohesion of the party, he told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM.

“We shouldn’t be quick in passing judgment, more so when we are seen as intellectuals; people with academic authority.”

“For anybody to run a public commentary on what happened you need to ask yourself certain fundamental questions and get the relevant answers, otherwise if you come out without addressing those questions you’ll be seen as taking sides. It’s a statement that shouldn’t come from somebody of that high repute”

“His comments and posture are not helping to foster unity in the party- the work of the academia is to help smoothen the rough edges in social politics, he’s doing a great disservice to this  party and our country, and more so to our students”

“For me peradventure my ward studies at the political Science Department  at the KNUST and is under the tutelage of Dr. Amoako Baah, I will have my own reservations”.
