Mr Kwamina Amoasi-Andoh, National Programmes Manager of the ILO for the Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) project has called on Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to be equipped with the necessary skills and right technologies that measure to international best practices in the global market.
According to him, Ghanaian businesses especially those in the manufacturing and service sectors must remain relevant in the global supply chain so they could become competitive on the world market.
Mr Amoasi-Andoh highlighted this while addressing participants of a week-long training on Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) for businesses in the Western Region.
The SCORE project, a practical training and in-factory consulting programme is developed by the ILO to improve productivity and working conditions in small and medium enterprises to essentially retool them in becoming competitive on the global market.
The project was first piloted in Greater Accra and Tema with its success stories being shared and replicated in the Western and Ashanti Regions.
The ILO is assisting government agencies, training providers, industry associations and trade unions in emerging economies in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The initiative is being supported by Switzerland and Norway.
