President Nana Akufo Addo has appointed Major General Obed Boamah Akwa as the new Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He’s to be officially introduced to the public on Thursday (today) at the Flagstaff House.

Major General Obed Boamah Akwa was appointed the Chief of Army Staff by President John Mahama in June 2016. Before that he was the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra.

He once served as the Aide De Camp (ADC) of former President John Agyekum Kufour.

Major General Akwa enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy in October 1975. He was commissioned into the Ghana Army as a Second Lieutenant in March 1977 with extensive experience in Global Security, Defence and Strategic Studies.
