President Akufo-Addo has appointed former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Forestry Commission.
He’ll be replacing Mr. Samuel Afari Dartey.
Before his appointment, there were speculations that Sir John as he’s affectionately called, was to be named the MD of the Ghana Ports and Harbours. But President Akufo-Addo chose Paul Asare Ansah instead.
The Forestry Commission of Ghana is responsible for the regulation of utilization of forest and wildlife resources, the conservation and management of those resources and the coordination of policies related to them.
The Commission embodies the various public bodies and agencies that were individually implementing the functions of protection, management, the regulation of forest and wildlife resources.
Earlier the President came under heavy bashing from a section of the ruling New Patriotic Party supporters who accused him of shunning Sir John after defending him and working so hard to ensure his victory in the 7th December 2016 polls.
But Sir John responded by urging for calm and calling on supporters not to ambush the President but allow him to work.
