Ghana deputy captain, Andre Ayew has underlined the importance of starting the 2019 Nations Cup qualification well.
The forward is still haunted by the Black Stars’ stuttering start to the 2018 World Cup qualifiers which has placed them lagging behind Egypt and Uganda.
Ayew was among 16 players who reported for a non-residential training at the Accra Sports Stadium to begin preparations for their opening game in Group F against the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia next weekend.
“We have a goal which is 2019 and together [it is important] we start it by getting a very good result here [in Ghana],” the West Ham United player said.
“We know that the bad results we had here versus Uganda made us have a difficult [2018] World Cup campaign. That is not yet over but we put that on the side right now and think about the Africa Cup of Nations which is Ethiopia.
“We want only but three points and we are going to work towards that,” Andre Ayew noted.
The Black Stars will continue to train in Accra for the rest of the week before switching camp to Kumasi on June 5.
Ghana hosts Ethiopia at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, June 11.
