A draft Bill on the Zongo Development Fund will be presented to Cabinet for further consideration soon, Minister for Inner-City and Zongo Development, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique has announced.

“In the next 10 [days] to 2 weeks, I should complete [the report] and submit it before Cabinet. Then cabinet will submit it to the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General to convert everything into a legal language,” the Minister told the media after a stakeholders forum on the Development Fund.

The government has allocated over GHS 200 million as seed funding to cover activities under the fund in the 2017 budget.

Vision for Zongo Development Fund

Government indicated that it plans to prioritize five programme areas under the fund to deal with vulnerabilities in these communities.

The priority areas which form part of government’s 2017 action plan, will address the current state of Zongos which are challenged with poverty, illiteracy and high levels of social and economic vulnerabilities.

Already, the government has been applauded but equally criticized for creating the Ministry for Inner Cities and Zongos Development.
