The Minister-designate for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori Atta has revealed that government is ready to cede some $5o million exclusively for the operation of the Zongo Development Fund.

Mr. Ofori-Atta during his vetting Friday said the focus of the ‘Fund’ is essentially a matter of poverty alleviation for the government.

He said one of government’s main concern is ensuring all citizens have “a minimum threshold of livability.”

“There are about some 365 Zongos in the country and it is really an issue of social justice,” he added.

As a campaign promise, the NPP government had said it would assist Zongo communities, predominantly Muslim settlements, by aiding their development with the fund.

Government has assured that, the Zongo Development Fund will be captured in the incoming Nana Akufo-Addo administration’s first budget statement.

The Zongo communities have applauded Akufo-Addo’s vision to prop up the development of the Zongos, albeit some criticisms for the government’s creation of the Ministry for Inner Cities and Zongos Development.
