The collapsed steel bridge over River Oda at Anhwia Nkwanta on the Kumasi-Obuasi road has seen its first maintenance since it was constructed in 1960 by an Australian Construction Company after a documentary by Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo.

It would be recalled that, Drivers and passengers in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region appealed to government and the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways to as a matter of urgency, repair the steel bridge over River Oda at Anhwia Nkwanta on the Kumasi-Obuasi road, before it causes any fatality.

The drivers said unless steps are taken to repair the damaged caused by erosion and weak structures, danger was imminent. Passengers also expressed worry over the bad condition of the bridge.

The Ashanti Regional NADMO Coordinator Hon. Kwabena Nsenkyire on June 27, 2017 threatened to close down the bridge if government fails to do maintenance work it.

The Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah in an interview assured that the bridge will see its first maintenance.

Works on the bridge has been awarded to a contractor by name Asabea Engineering and Construction Limited.

Speaking to Osei Kwadwo when he visited the site, the Contractor Mr. Oteng indicated that per the contract terms work on the bridge should be completed by August 20, 2017.
