The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has urged President Nana Akufo Addo to ensure that the laws of the country are effectively enforced at all times during his regime.
According to the church, it is excited about the President’s promise to build a new Ghanaian civilization where the rule of law is upheld at all times.
“But law without enforcement is impotent, just as force without law is anarchy. So we hope that the promise of an era of the law that works, the law would be made to bite. A law that does not bite is not respected and lawlessness follows. May God bless you that as a lawyer also, the Lord will empower you to let the laws work in our motherland Ghana.” Former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey told President Akufo Addo at the 17th General Assembly of the church at Kwahu-Abetifi on Saturday, where he[President] was a guest of honour.
Very Rev. Prof. Martey further speaking on behalf of the church urged the President to ensure that his administration is proactive in dealing with the joblessness situation among the citizenry, especially trained professionals.
“There’re a lot of trained nurses who are without work, we urge government to see to it that these group of people are employed. There’re clinics and hospitals that need nurses, we hope that your government will be proactive in this and then give jobs. Not only to nurses, most agitations in this country are because of joblessness. We’re with you in prayers that the promise you gave to Ghanaians, you’ll really abide by these promises.”
President Nana Akufo Addo on his part urged Ghanaians to passionately believe in our capacity to build a modern developed progressive nation and free ourselves of a mindset of dependence, aid, charity and handouts.
According to the President, “we can together as a people build a new Ghanaians civilization where there’s fair opportunity for all in health and education, where hardwork, enterprise and creativity are rewarded.”
President Akufo Addo said, he envisions and is commited to lead in the building of a country where there’s an abundance of good jobs and good pay, where there’s a dignified retirement for elderly, where there will also be a safety net for the vulnerable and disadvantaged.
He added that he looks forward to a country where governance is honest and free of corruption and where the rule of law works.
