Ghanaian populace have developed prime interest in watching Telenovelas in recent times because the series focus on romance, comedy, murder mysteries, the supernatural or even eroticism or all those ingredients.

Showing of Telenovelas in Ghana have been heavily criticized by section of the public and local movie producers who claim the country is gradually losing its cultural identity allowing foreign contents to take over the local movie markets with their culture and also giving those foreign contents a space to broadcast 5 or 6 times a week both in prime time and during the day.

Though the upsurge of these Telenovelas have also been criticised by movie stars complaining of being out of business, other Ghanaian stakeholders in the movie industry have come in terms with the popular adage that “If you can’t beat them, just join them” as Koole Production (Bassy Mohammed) in colaboration with CeeJay Multimedia has started shooting Ghana’s first telenovela series.

The new locally produced Telenovela titled ‘LUCIANA’ will feature popular Ghanaians actors, Musicians and Television and Radio personalities.

The main cast Elikem Kumordzie, Salma Mumin, Peter Ritchie, Bibie Brew, Kafui Dey, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Akuma Mama Zimbi, Maame Serwaa, Alexander Chima Cyprian, Qwasi Blay, Laxio Beats, Johnnie Hughes, and introducing Akosua Agyekum, Basira Mohammed, Patience Churchill and Sasha Biliens amongst others to be featured in Ghana’s first Telenovela.

‘Luciana’, according to the producer will be shot in both Kumasi and Accra beginning November 8. The premiere is scheduled for December this year.
