President Akufo-Addo has withdrawn the appointment of the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Peter Abum Sarkodie after he reportedly failed his interview with the Civil Service Commission which tested his knowledge before he assumed office.
The President’s decision follows the advice of the governing board of the EPA which does not find Peter Abum Sarkodie a suitable candidate for the position.
A letter addressed to the sacked EPA boss signed by Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo said “You are thus, directed to vacate the office of the Executive Director and hand over to the Deputy Executive Director (Field Operations), Mr John Pwamang, by close of day Friday, 13th April, 2018.”
The report of Mr Peter Abum Sarkodie’s performance during the interview was submitted to president Akufo-Addo few days ago nearly eight months after he assumed the position in a substantive capacity.
Kasapafmonline’s sources at the Presidency say the President invited Mr. Sarkodie, who is a former lecturer, over the incident prior to his dismissal during which he submitted his responses to the Presidency.
There is a brewing controversy over the EPA position after the Member of Parliament for Assin North Kennedy Agyepong claimed that a highly placed presidential staffer is lobbying the position for his brother.
Mr. Sarkodie was appointed to the position in July 2017. He was a Senior Lecturer in Analytical Environmental Chemistry and Environmental Science Education of the University of Education of Winneba, Mampong Campus in the Ashanti Region before his appointment.
